Moss Code----rot is Mother Nature’s recycling program.

Yesterday I did a post about a roof that was “toast.”

Today’s “toast” goes to the deck at the same house.

The entire deck structure goes way beyond the realm of “unsafe” and into the realm of “compost.”  It is interesting to note that it was never built to be safe even when it was brand new (ledger not bolted, ledger not flashed, undersized joists and beams, no joist hangers, improper surface etc).  There was extensive rot in most structural components and the plywood deck surface was badly rotten and covered with moss.  It was pretty obvious that this deck had been unsafe for a long time and yet there were no barriers from the house preventing anyone from walking out onto it.  Of course getting to the deck from the ground was made “challenging” by the fact that the stairs had completely rotted away.

Rotten deck support post

I always wanted a deck garden---or was that a garden deck?

Stairway to heaven

Anyone walking out on this deck in the dark would certainly have rotten luck.

I am amazed that this hose did not have at last a minimum of work done before going to market and I guess is has stood empty for quite awhile so a buyer would take that into account right away. Maybe this is an"as is" deal.

Hey, your new picture looks compelling but I liked the old one, it was so pleasant and looks like someone I would definitely trust on first meeting because your personality shows through! Just an opinion. Have a great week!

Please tell me that was an abandoned home. It certainly looks that way!  That looks like a decade of neglect, if not more.

Hi Russel, I am up and down about the picture----so many people have commented that they like it that I may let it stay for awhile.  I had a buyer that found me through AR that thought it worked well to get them interested in reading my blog.  The house was a foreclosure and had been empty about 3 months----the deck had been unsafe for way longer than that:)

Robert, it has been a real long time since anyone has but a lot of TLC into the house----most likely will be bulldozed now.

Charles - I was going to say... now that we have seen the roof and the deck (well, what is left) - is there actually any house around??? :) ~Rita

Rita, nothing that a new foundation, 3 new bathrooms, new kitchen, new roof, new windows, new plumbing, new electrical system and new heating system wouldn't cure:)  That is for starters:)

Charlie,

I love the way you sidestep the questions about the house. If they only knew that to get the photo all you had to do was ....very gingerly....open the back door and straddle the landing.

I could have told them that I took them at my last visit to your house:)  Just trying not to embarrass you.

Those stairs look perfectly fine to me!

Wow, what a house! Sounds like a real great buy.

Looks like a good one for a bon fire if the land is good.  Don't know that I would want to "fix up" anything that far gone.  Plus you could "toast" some hot dogs & buns at the bon fire.

Tammy, sounds good

Vince, I haven't seen the movie but I believe I have inspected the house.

Why would anyone need stairs when that deck is so inviting and comfortable?  When, when, can I move in?

Very kindly,

That's really far gone, now I see what you meant yesterday. I think Tammy hadthe best idea ... fire, hot dogs, buns and something cool to wash it down. Horrible house, great pictures.

C'mon...it's not that bad. Those stairs are just, shall we say, a bit of a challenge.

Mr Charles,

Did someone conveniently forget that, when I was running your firm, I ended up in traction after falling off those very steps on my way to an emergency home inspection.

Better luck next "fall."  (By the way have you got your first shipment of "Squirrel Drool" Beer ready to go yet?)

Stairs, what stairs!  We don't need no stinkin' stairs!  This is unbelievable but not unheard-of.
