Werd!!!

A week or so ago, someone did a post about switching to Firefox  for their Internet Browser.  I wish I could remember who that was so that I could acknowledge them.

I made the switch and it is awesome.  Now I can compose my blogs in Word like I always have----limited only by whatever Word can do.

     Take this for example!

        Or how about this!

I can then copy and paste it into my blog and everything transfers to my blog exactly the way it looked in Word without any fiddling around with all the HTML/ WYSIWIG stuff (once you copy and paste into your post and publish it it draft mode, you will notice some extraneous HTML code that you will need to go back in and delete before publishing out of draft mode).

There is also an add-on to Firefox called Scribefire that allows you do do all of your writing and then transfer directly to your blog post.   Scribefire is a little more limited than Word----but not much----and what is cool about it is that you can open it and it takes up the bottom half of your screen where you can reply to all the gazillion comments to your blog post without having to scroll up and down the comments to get to the last person you commented to.  Plus you can make your comments look COOL----just like whatever you do with your post----and all without that nasty HTML/ WYSIWIG stuff.

I think one of the coolest things about all this is that because there is no going back and forth between HTML/WYSIWIG, there is no problem going back and editing things later on----especially when it comes to pictures and links.  Now if only I could figure out how to include pictures in the copy and paste.  That can be done old school after the post has been copied into your blog.

And now for the hard part.  In order for all of this to work there has to be a "snippet" of coding already in place.  For example if I copy and paste my name as it appears at the end of this post into the next post and then insert the next post from Word ahead of my name there will be enough HTML code associated with my name to affect the whole new pasted material.

If I get enough requests on how to do this I will do another post with those instructions.

The only thing left to say is, “WERD!”

Charles - I'm still behind the times.  I write on AR and save it if I'm not going to post it right away.  Yours is the better way, I believe.  Someday, I will get onboard.

If you are willing to take the time I'd be happy to read and follow the instructions.

Charles, strangely enough the blog just before yours was written by our own Brad Andersohn, and it was about Firefox Applications as a browser.

Charlie,

I have firefox, but have not used it for that application. I am still using explorer for AR.

Alan, I worked up the instructions and thought I could insert them in this post but it won't let me so I guess I have to figure out why:)

Jason, your way is probably simpler though:)

Simon, I am working on it.

Steve, great minds think alike?

Steve Smith, check it out.

I'd be interested to see how you do it.  I haven't figured out the fancy stuff yet.

Charles.. now you can post in color, and different fonts and sizes.. but you can't post any instructions?... kinda counter productive, yes?

Hi Charles, this is nice. I didn't know firefox would let you do this. I will look into this. Thanks!

Barbara, I think I have the tutorial worked out----will post it momentarilly.

Alan, hang in there instructions are coming----all I can say you get a big prize if you can follow them:)

Gail, instructions will be as "simple" as I can make them---but it does take some experimenting and getting used to.

Linda, and all, if you have problems with the coming tutorial-----give me feed back so I can refine them.

Hi Charles...What terrific information.  Hopefully lots of folks get to see this.  I read the following post first.  I think I will re-blog it so more get to see it.

Looks like I may have to muster a retraction.  As long as you use the fonts available in Scribefire, you should be able to copy and paste directly from word into Scribefire and then directly into your blog post----without any of the messiness of my approach detailed in the follow up to this post.  If you don't need any of the things that are available in Word that are not ins Scribefire, then Scribefire might be enough---just create your post write in Scribefire and post it directly to your blog.

Charles - me too, it looks like there are some many things to be discovered with it. I am liking it more and more each time I use it. ~Rita

Great.  I've tried IE and Chrome, but neither are very good for blogs or comments.  Thanks for the info.

Jack, I think this Scribefire function of Firefox is just the ticket.

(once you copy and paste into your post and publish it it draft mode, you will notice some extraneous HTML code that you will need to go back in and delete before publishing out of draft mode).

This may be the most important part of your post, many members miss this then wonder why their posts don't look right.  I'm going to start forwarding all the tech tickets, voicemails, and emails to you now Charles! :-)

...just kidding!!

Brad, you sure better be kidding----I have absolutely no clue what I am doing.  So unless you want the blind leading the blind........

Posted by Charles Buell, Seattle Home Inspector (Charles Buell Inspections Inc.) almost 10 years ago

Wow, I guess I'm really getting behind the times here. I have no idea what this is all about, or how you are doing it. I'm going to try to find this Firefox, and Scribefire, and see if I can learn to start using it without a techie course, or a geek squad.

Charles,

Really, how are you doing that?

Posted by Karen Monsour, REALTOR, SSRS - Sells FL Waterfront, Short Sale Expert! (Coldwell Banker Fort Lauderdale Beach) almost 10 years ago

Karen, just write your post in Firefox, Scribefire and then just copy and paste it into your blog.  Just like I did with this comment.:)
