Someone once said, "Let it be, Let it be."

"Movement" is not necessarily a sign that your business is succeeding.

Angel Statue Mimes in Barcelona

One can be frantically running around like a chicken with their head cut off and not necessarily be getting anywhere.  The amount of blood spread around would never be considered a sign of success for the chicken---however it might to whomever is making dinner.  Sometimes even doing "all the right things" isn't even enough.  Of course there is always the danger that if what we are doing is "not working" that perhaps what we are doing is the "wrong thing," that we have the wrong definition of "working," or perhaps we are just not doing the right thing "anymore."  Even the definitions can change.

These Statue Mimes are making their business work by standing absolutely still----going nowhere.

It is very easy to say, when things are going along in a way that we "like," that we must be doing something right----and even that may not be true, if we happen to be in the right place at the right time, are lucky, or have rich parents, things can often appear to be better than they actually are.  The human mind can basically make up any story it wants----to fit just about any circumstance we can think of.  And you can be sure that no two people will make up exactly the same story----our perspectives will always be different----even about the same issue.

Conversely, when we think things are not going well, they may in fact be better than we allow ourselves to think.

All of this comes around to "judgment."  We all make judgments about this or that as opposed to just letting things be the way they are.  In my opinion nothing ever changes until we can allow things to be the way they are.  This is not about "agreement with" or "support for" or "control of" the way things are----and it certainly is not about "ignoring" anything. It is all about letting things "be" so that what is really so, or true, can become apparent.  It is all about allowing the river to flow in the direction it is going, figuring out where the banks of the river are, and building your dreams where they are likely to be safe.  No amount of pretending we understand the river will help until we have truly observed the river---until we have let it be.

That's a great image, Charles...

I've never seen miming done in Spanish, only in English.  I'll show this to my daughters who are both fluent in Spanish and see if they can decipher for me.  ;-/

Alan, you have to listen VERY closely---they speak "Simon & Garfunkle"

Thanks for the post, Charles. My philosophy is that our lives are filled with a series of events, and we choose how to label them. Everything is truly relative. Our outlook is determined by what we compare the events of our lives to.

ahhh... I hear it now... the S of S.... yes, I hear it... as our Governor says... it's freakin' golden.

John, I think you are right.  Many people don't seem to recognize it is them doing the "labeling," thinking that somehow someone else put the obstacles in their path.  Also "comparing" itself is fraught with problems of its own:)

Alan---you are too funny----I think I need to hook you up to some jumper cables:)

Carol, you have a little river near you that sometimes has a mind of its own:)

Charles, okay... but don't start anything.

There you go again being the philospher.  Agree, but sometimes once you find out where you are the river has changed coarse and your not there anymore.

I never know how to comment when you're in your serious mode.  So I'm just going to say I like the new Raven who operates from a different realm. : )

One other comment about mime.  When my daughter lived in CA she said the greatest show ever was in Redondo Beach? and it was a stage show where people were posed to look just like the old master's paintings.  They evidently set up one, left it up for awhile and then did another and another.  Did you ever hear of it?

Alan, I just keep turning over and over and over and over

Jack, yup----predicting the river can be difficult----it usually comes with a "history" thought that you can read if you pay attention:)

Barbara----you just never know when Raven is going to show up:) I haven't heard of th CA mimes but they are all over the place.  Here is another one from Barcelona.

Charles, I wouldn't keep turning like that... it can make you "cranky".

Charlie, To be a little cliche, life is a journey not a destination. The "river" is the path we travel. Trying to predict where the river will flow is like driving down the road using only the rear view mirror. We can try and judge where to go by where we've been. Sometimes we get it right, sometimes we have to make an adjustment.

I think we truly can't just let it be. To be totally passive and allow what will be, be. Hoping by waiting things will be as they were or good again. To ride out the storm. Hmmmm.....

Now I will be singing that song by the Beatles all day long, thank you!

Michael, that sounds like a plan:)

Alan----other than in museums----do you remember vehicles with cranks?

James, I agree, and while "letting it be" sounds passive, it is anything but.  It is more like taking the sails down in a heavy storm (when necessary) as opposed to carrying on at all costs.

Posted by Charles Buell, Seattle Home Inspector (Charles Buell Inspections.com) over 3 years ago

I agree that putting your head down and plowing ahead with out regard is unwise. Letting it be is more akin to going with the flow. Following the river and steering to stay on course.

That is my take on it as well.  Continuing to "bail-out" as necessary is also important:) Man, I sure miss trashing Nutsy!!!

I hear you. It's too quiet without that pesky rodent around.

James, now that he is in Tequilla heaven----perhaps he will never return---I hear he has taken up cactus glissading:)

Alan, don't close your eyes----you will get there!

Posted by Charles Buell, Seattle Home Inspector (Charles Buell Inspections.com) over 3 years ago

Charlie, I'm sure he will return. We shall not be that lucky to have him disappear some where in Mexico. Pardon my ignorance, but what on earth is cactus glissading?

Posted by James Quarello - Connecticut Home Inspector (JRV Home Inspection Services, LLC) over 3 years ago

It is the same as sliding down glaciers on your butt---except down cactus:)
