Seattle Home Inspector's Blog

Glazed like a donut!

Everyone seems to like to put "links" in their posts.  From links to other posts they have done, to other people's posts, to other websites and U-Tube videos.chains

     I do it myself.

Does anyone ever actually click on these links?

When I open someone's post and it has a gazillion links----my brain glazes over.  Even if it were to mean that my life would be "positively" altered forever, the 700 Billion Dollar question was to get answered, and I was to become a millionaire over night, I am more likely to hit the "back button" than the "link button."

     Is this just me?

Now, posts like the ones that reference the "Week's Best Posts" are a little different----but even they seem cumbersome if they have more than 5 or 6 links.

     What is your limit?

Do you usually go to all the links or listen to all the U-Tube clips?

Don't you feel like these things can "hijack" your time?

Hopefully the links in this post kept you on track sunsmile

I click on most of them, unless I do not get what I am looking for in the article.-Dinah

I click on links, but get irritated when they navigate me from the page as opposed to opening a new window.

Charles, if the Post is something I am intrested in then I go further. If it does not intrest me No I move on.

Charles - for me it depends on the post, sometimes I click on some links sometime not. I try not to add too many links to my posts, for the reason you pointed out - glaze over may occur and it may take away from the post. Rita

Dinah, I have seen some that would take longer than the Excel Tutorial I did a while back:)

Tammy,---pretty easy to avoid

Endre, that is true for me also---but if there are 50:(

Rita, I agree

Hi Charles,  I understand that most of the links are there for the Google juice so I rarely follow them.

Charles, I seem to be the only one so far to get the joke.  No one clicked on your links except me and they all lead back to your blog!!!  FUNNNNNNYYYY!  Loved it.  Steve should be so clever!!  Or Nutsy!

It's a personal preferance. If you don't want to go to the links ,don't. Some of us might like to go to them if it looks interesting.

Barbara, thanks----but maybe everyone else did but didn't think it was funny:) I am sure big Nutsy and Little Nutsy will think it is funny!

Ray, I click on them if they look interesting as well.

What about those pink mink links that open when you blink?  I think...

yes, they are time wasters..but they are supposed to increase your SEO  because they are links back to your site...

Charles - I click on links of interest, ignore the others. Oh, yes, of course it can hijack your time. That's why it's so important to put blogging/commenting/reading into your schedule, which means an end time as well as a begin time.

Sharon, great advice---I am going to get me some of those newfangled "link-filters" that fit right on one's glasses:)

Charlie - I click on the links sometimes, but sometmes bloggers can be tricksters! Thanks but I prefer treats over tricks!

Charlie,

If there are a couple, that tie in with the theme of the posts, I will at least sample them. If there are many links, no. You always click on links Nutsy leaves of squirrels being picked on.

Hey Charles,

Great question. I will generally only "click" on a link if it is supporting what the author is writing in their post or has copywrited information which the writer can't put directly in their blog. I will NOT click on multible links and I do not like blogs that are basically a BOOK. If the blogg is more than a few paragraphs I will generally hit the "back" button and move on to another blog.

I didn't come to Activerain to read a book. Heck, I didn't read many of my college text books while in school... AND in my Senior year, I didn't BUY any of the required text books... and I still graduated.     .... HeHeHE

Carol----I didn't trick you did I?:)

Nutsy is the missing "link."

Sean, I am kind of the same way----there are exceptions.  I don't mind long posts, but if there are too many links to go chasing around or too much "really bad" music to listen to, or bad video's to watch----I am out of there:)

Charles, I will click on a link only if it interests me. If there are too many links, like you, my minds glazes over and says TMI...
