On a recent inspection I noticed a pronounced "raised" area where the electrical service bracket was attached to the roof.
It is very common to see these electrical service wires pulling the restraint brackets off the structure. These wires sometimes span long distances and can in themselves be quite heavy. Add to them a whole bunch of ice and snow and a family of squirrels and you can end up with the wire pulling away from the house----not good electrical juju. In this next picture you can see the bracket pulling loose from the side of the house.
But, lets get back to my recent inspection. As I was sorting through the possibilities of what was going on I noticed that the wire from the Utility pole was stretched as tight as a piano wire and (as you can see in the picture) the pole is leaning away from the home and the wire is acting to hold the pole up----or we have a tug o' war going on. I will place my bet on the Utility pole----and I am not prone to gambling.

I can clearly see that being a home inspector you have some new problem everyday to blog about. I find it totally entertaining and informative. Thanks!
Hey, Charles. Great observation on your part, as always. Thanks for sharing, Jim
Lizette, glad I can keep you entertained:)
Jim & Maria, I just wish I had had the nerve to "pluck it" to see if it would make music:) (also, your comment came in in triplicate so I deleted two of them:)
Charlie,
At least with that first photo you can tell them that, despite the electrical, the roof looks too good to be true great. AR is so slow today I am having trouble maintaining my cool.
The roof looks pretty gooky to me, Steve. Surely all that ooze around the shingles is not normal?
Steve, the roof was not too big an issue.
Barbara, all that "ooze" is moss----don't you have moss down your way?:)
I wonder if that's how the great Squirrels massacre of 78 started. "it was horrible... there were formerly bushy tails standing straight up, buck teeth everywhere, and a stench that I will never be able to shake from my mind..." (hehehe...)
I don't think I want to be any where near that area when that wire does come off... Looks like a pretty "tense" situation.
Me and my chain saw on a dark cloudy night says the house wins. After all, if you've seen "Casino" or "Catch Me if you Can" the house always wins!
I guess we don't have any that looks like that. Course I haven't been on top getting a close up view. In fact, if we have moss growing, it's not a good thing. But Seattle is the city that has rain all the time anyhow, isn't it?
So Klee, maybe could "pluck" that old wire WHILE the squirrels are crossing?
Barbara, don't you see that wire pointing at that beautiful blue sky?----it is like that all the time here:)
Charles, I do find your posts to be very informative and a true learning experience. I also like that you are over 85% content and less than a 15% commercial for yourself. I commend you for being more of a public service than a commercial...
Paul, my personal approach to life and business is to "Give everything away----make room for more." (that is, to take the focus of making money from one of "getting" to one of "giving." Money can't come in if their isn't room for it:)
I will have to work on lowering that 15% I guess----seems too high:)
Wow..... I'm surprised the utility company doesn't do something to fix that.
Sean Allen
Sean, hopefully they will----at least that was the recommendation
I bet on the pole as well.
A couple of things I do not see in the Virginia Commonwealth:
Around here electrical mastheads are not allowed to bisect a roof. Service conductors need to be outside the house. And I really like the protective sleeve around the bottom of it at the roof line! Super! Duct tape might also work as well.
Also, I have NEVER seen moss in a gutter! Is it wet there?
Jay, did you forget where I live?----the moss capitol of the country! It is not called the Evergreen State for no reason.
I know... again, my silliness coming through.
