Being a soccer nut, each new artificial turf soccer field that replaces the old dirt fields is welcomed with much excitement. Just a few years ago most of the fields were either grass fields in very poor condition or
dirt. The dirt fields were actually preferred in most cases to the grass fields. Before these dirt fields there were the nasty old fields of pulverized brick that would routinely make any part of your body that was unfortunate enough to hit it look like pizza.
The latest of these fields at Twin Ponds Park, in Shoreline, Washington, is about to be unveiled.
This field when it was dirt had the particular reputation of being very dusty with sand dunes of dust piling up along the side lines. If the wind blew when you were playing you could get lost from one end of the field to the other. Well maybe not quite that bad----but you get the picture. Today the field looks like this. Doesn't it make you just want to run and get a soccer ball? (Steve don't answer)

Take away the soccer field and this would still be a pretty cool park. Like its name implies there are two small ponds with trails that run between them and around them through the woods. Here are some pictures of the ponds and trees.

And one of the ponds occupants.

Cool park Charles. I haven't seen these artificial turf surfaces like for soccer fields in parks. That's something different for sure.
Charlie B,
I do not think I have, ever before, seen you do a localism post. The new localism must be a big magnet. Good job you journalist you.
Gary, in the immediate Seattle area there are currently more than 70 of these fields----and more on the way.
Steve, yup that was my first.
Charlie B,
Well you got my attention with it. You should get a part-time job doing photos and features for a weekly newspaper.
Wow, my daughter plays highschool soccer on a sub-par field. This looks amazing...I'll have to show her.
My niece and her husband just moved to Seattle 2 weeks ago. They love it!
Vicki
Steve, not a full time job?
Vicki, yes, these fields are amazing----a little faster than grass. Seattle is a pretty easy place to love.
This looks like a great park to visit!
It really is a beautiful little park. I am usually there to play soccer so I had never ventured off on the trails until I did this blog.
I really like the first wood and pond picture. That is a beauty. Has a dreamy quality.
Lloyd, thanks for stopping by and commenting
