Toilet Seat Wars------already at Bathrooms near you!

I can imagine that it was Thomas Crapper’s wife that started the war between couples about leaving the toilet seat lid up or down depending on your point of view.  While Thomas Crapper most likely did not invent the toilet, he for sure did a lot to make it popular with his many improvements.

Just a nomal keep-the-lid-down type toilet

As near as I can tell it takes just about as much strength to lift the lid up as it does to lower it down, and I figure that whatever position it is in “someone” has to put it the other way----but what do I know----I am a guy.

On a recent inspection I came across what is perhaps the “ultimate” solution to this serious problem and is likely to eliminate “heated” discussions of the issue from being heard through the walls by the neighbors.

The no lid at all solution

     Makes sense to me.

Clearly that home was owned by a bachelor!

Charles,

That is both hilarious and practical at the same time.

Hopefully it doesn't become a style trend!

Charles, this is very funny.  Accomodation is the key to a happy marriage I guess.

I toured a multimillion dollar home once with a urinal and a bidet in every bathroom. What are these people think about all of the time?

Posted by Glenn Roberts - Seattle Residential (Lake & Company Real Estate) about 2 years ago

Bidets are not uncommon here in larger homes, but I haven't seen urinals yet. I vote with Craig, #3, accomodation is the key.

Charles...

Now why didn't I think of that? It seems so obvious.

Posted by Richard Weisser Coweta Fayette Real Estate about 2 years ago

I hve coma across a urinal in a home before.  It did seem odd.  I don't think it's an upcoming trend.

I wonder what the wife would think about that. Although, it might just make everyone happy.

Charles - I once had a customer who requested that the plumber install a urinal on the garage wall.  His wife vetoed the idea.

Hi Charles,

I have a trash can in the Kitchen that when you are near the sensor with some trash in hand, the lid lifts up and then lowers after you throw the trash in the can. That would solve half of the problem. But if applied to the other can, it would create a "cold" and unpleasant surprise for the person what wished to use it in a sitting position. So maybe this idea could modified with a remote control with the default position being " lid down". People love remotes, LMAO. Just a matter of time, I suppose. Perhaps the legislature could take up the issue.

Actually I've wondered why the 'green' movement hasn't been promoting urinals as a way of conserving on water.  It makes more sense to have a low water use urinal (they even have waterless now) than it does to have a flush every time.

A trend now - no - but I wouldn't be surprised if it did at some point.

Makes sense to me too!  Thomas Crapper? For real? LOL

Fantastic solution to an otherwise dicey subject Charles.  It is next on my list.

I think urinals are a great solution to the age-old "problem" regarding the position of the toilet seat.

Posted by Tom Boos (Sine & Monaghan Realtors, Real Living) about 2 years ago

I have been surprised lately about how many of the urinals are showing up in kids rooms in new construction. What if you have all girls?
It all starts by liking what you do,

I don't know - you'd better consult our feng shui expert Carlole. I'm sure she'll give us advice on this one!

Hi Charles, it is time that men stand up for their rights. I think Crapper would be proud of you for bringing this up.

Charlie,

It is very rare when I find one of those in a residence.

I know I've got a photo somewhere of a funnel attached to a hose that leaves through the side of the garage wall...

I've seen one house with a urinal.  I blogged about it a few months ago.  I did a doubletake when I saw that thing in this really expensive house.

My thinking is that it is not the effort it takes to raise or lower a toilet lid.  It is the  UGH!  thoughts of having the TOUCH the thing.  Men are notorious about having bad aim.  UGH!

Jay, I bet he is
Craig---nope :)
Rich, I agree
Lyn, come on---how can you not love this idea? LOL
Craig----that and a short memory and I hear they can last forever :)
Glenn, this is only the second one I have seen----looks like I have to move
 in higher circles
Lottie, you have to agree a short memory has to be right up there too :)
Richard it does doesn't it
Jeff, you just never know what is going to catch on.  I am sure they said thing aboout toilets :)
Integrity---maybe so
John----he might as well just go outside :)
William, I am sure someone is out in their garage tinkering with idea as we talk
Michael----well it certainly has reached commercial buildings----just not residentail yet
Debi, have you really never heard of Thomas Crapper?-----does seem kind of unbelievable doesn't it?  Just google it and check it out :)
Rich, we will be waiting for the pictures-----not demonstrations though---please!
Tom it makes sense to me
Paul, good question----could double as a planter I suppose
Anna, I am sure feng shui would have something to say about it---but then again the hard core feng shui would probably not like toilets either
Frank, I will stand by what I say :)
Steve, pretty rare for me too
Reuben, you been to Steve's house?
Barbara, but men have to touch the thing too----and there is TP stuck to it :)

Charles, I have seen urinals in some expensive homes and even a condo....but I am not sure I would want one in my home :)

Jay, fun to test too :)

Rebecca, as "practical" as they might be I think they will meet with a fair amount of resistance before they become very common

My only gripe is when brokers take pictures of bathrooms with the lid up.  Looks like a gaping hole in the middle of the room.
