For some reason this defect at a door lock-set reminded me of that movie Airplane (can no longer remember which one) and the play on the word “striker,” where the word was not only some guys name but also what was done to one of the stewardesses. In a similar way this Strike bolt, struck me as kind of funny----even though no stewardesses got hurt and no little kids had to see Peter Graves naked. It does make me want to strike myself in the head though. Charles Buell

I bet they've wondered for years why this door is so hard to work!
Now here is someone that should probably keep on renting! lol I supose the door stayed shut and that was all that mattered!
Michael---new construction:)
Vern, see my comment to Michael, but I think you are right about it being all that mattered.
This also reminds me of the movie "Sideways"
Did you consider their hand might be upside down? Gheesh, Charles.
Carla---AHHH yes.
Kate----or at least sideways :)
Charles - this photo made me laugh out loud!!! Un-bee-freakin'-leavable!
That striker is way wrong! Did it even work? By the way, here are some funny clips from the movie Airplane that you referenced in your post today! Enjoy!
Alan, it is kind of funny
Craig, thanks for the addition----these movies were very funny. The strike bolt worked as long as you turned the handle to both open it and close it.
Charles, if I didn't know you to be such a straight guy, I'd think you photo-shopped this stuff. But, it's more like you can't make this stuff up. Reality bites.
Frank, I have to admit my imagination pales in relation to the stuff I find:)
That's hilarious! I'd pay money to talk to the owners :)

Charles - Door hardware has always seemed like a work of genius to me! How anyone can install it and make it work seems miraculous to me:-)
Too funny!!! Some folks just seem to take a bassackwards approach to things don't they...
Charlie,
That and the original Naked Gun movie were very funny
I get it. That door was upside down!
Charles, You and Steven are so lucky to have an endless supply of story lines from each inspection...
Josh it would be interesting to know what it was like to live with the door like this
Myrl, some of it is more mysterious than others:)
Michael, it is for sure hard to figure out sometimes
Steve, yup
Jay---I didn't think anyone would figure it out
Paul, for sure inspectors have it easy----as long as they don't get bored with having too many opportunities:)
Charles - Maybe the lock is for one of those out of adjustment doors that must be lifted to close.
John, I have done serious damage to my brain attempting to make this thing "logical":)
Charles ....
How in the world did that get turned that way around? Sure will make it hard to close the door.
Charles, you have me wondering if the handle really works or is it there only for show? Does anyone use the door for access?
Barbara, you are too funny:)
Jason, are you sure you are not going to need something a little stronger than green tea/
Richard---it was broken for sure.
Lora, oh it "worked"----just not the way it is supposed to. It was the door between the house and the garage so it had to of been used quite a bit.
Charles, I would have to wonder about the rest of the house on this new construction!
Thats just weird Charles, I can't figure out how or why the striker components would rotate 90 degrees. I have NEVER seen anything like it.
Mr Charles,
I find it amusing that a publicly proclaimed nudist such as yourself would be critical of Peter Graves in the buff.
Nutsy
You'd think someone would have wanted this fixed before now! LOL
Debi
Tony and Darcy---it was otherwise pretty well done----this was kind of a fluke in that house really
Jim, it was broken internally and allowed it to rotate around and around
Glenn, see my comment to Jim
Nutsy, I am the ONLY man I can stand seeing naked :)
Debi, one would think so. The only saving grace was that this was new construction so the only ones that really had to put up with it were workers----and they most likely just propped the door open most of the time.
That looks like some of my Brother-in-laws work. I actually like the look of the hardware on the door.
Gene, well except for the "messed up part" the hardware in this house was pretty good.
