Holy Cannon Balls Batman----the Powder Room is on Fire!!!

Transparency is apparently all the rage as blogging takes over the universe----can you imagine the impact this can have if it takes hold in the rest of our lives?  We tend to think that some things are just so “rock-solid” they can never “be” transparent or never “benefit” from transparency.

Metaphorically speaking I came face to face with solid stone that was more transparent than one usually thinks of stone being.  And while the Powder Room was not really on fire, it sure looked like it.

This Marble countertop, when lit from beneath, appeared to be “on fire.”

Transparent Marbles

It also made for a very fun “night-light.”

 Transparent Marbles

Transparency really is more than it is cracked up to be!

Great effect. I know a contractor who has done this at his customer's request, and it is stunning. To me, I just want to brush my teeth, and not leave a mess for the "cleaning lady" behind. But, I guess in a guest bath, it encourages everyone to be neat and tidy!

This is very cool and definately makes a statement. Who says a bathroom has to resemble a hospital room.

And they say photographs don't lie!

That's a very neat piece of stone. I'm seeing more and more custom woods and stone used in homes these days.

This one is really quite unique.

Frank, I think I could figure out a way to mess it up :)

Claude---I was pretty impressed too

Craig----some people just insist on having fun :)

Wow! That's wild! The stone looks like agate, and it's beautiful. I like it, but I'm not sure I'd want it... then again... I don't know... maybe!

Debi it is one of those things that is kind of on the edge between too much and OK.  For me, even un-lit it is a bit "busy"-----and then to go and light it all up :)

Hello Charles and that is a wild looking sink and I have to agree with Debi, it's beautiful!

I'm seeing sinks like that around here.  Evidently, they're the new rage.  Personally, I hate them.  They do not appear very functional and they're certainly not pretty.

Robert the glow was really amazing

Barbara, my big issue with them is no overflow---but the odd thing about them is that the more you fill them the faster they drain----should be able to keep up with the flow----no actual stopper in them.

Charles, those are the coolest counter tops that I have ever seen!

The exterior of the LDS Washington DC temple is entirely Alabama marble.  There are no windows.

From the inside, in various hallways, some of the marble is shaved so thin that the sunlight can brighten the halls (there are ceiling and sconce lights also) so that they can save energy on the lighting.  The marble looks very interesting from the inside perspective.

That's the same principle as the sink top in your post.

Do they have a light under there for effect or is that your flashlight?

Charles,

That is just spectacular!  What a great idea to illuminate stone

Being an artist myself, this is absolutely amazing.  It really sets apart the bathroom from the standard Home Depot bathroom we often see.

I think it is a little too arty for the bathroom. Hard to gather my thoughts when shaving over this.

Posted by Glenn Roberts - Seattle Residential (Lake & Company Real Estate) 5 months ago

That is definitely different.  Great insentive to keep everything extra clean!  Not sure it would appeal to the masses during the sale phase though.

Tony & Darcy----for sure

Jay, they have a string of low voltage lights

Paul, yes, a very cool night light

Rich, not a sign of the big orange tool box here

Glenn, I do that before I am awake anyway:)

I think it looks great, personally; however, if the rest of the decor doesn't match an accent sink like this one-then what's the point? I would be interested to see how they decorated the rest of the house.

Charlie,

Those are interesting photos. Were you on drugs at the time.

Hi Charles, That is one gorgeous piece of stone. It requires the right environment and this powder room was a perfect application.

Joe, it really wasn't out of touch with the rest of the house---worked great.

Steve, I am not like you and Nutsy

William---I agree-----would love to see it at night----as a night light

Charles:  That is quite striking. I have never seen anything like that, and as always, thank you for your puny metaphors

I need that.  What a cool idea.

Jim, you are welcome

Reuben---go for it :)

That's wild looking. Add some orange shag carpet, plastic beads in the doorway and a Hendrix poster on the wall and it would be complete.
