It seems as though people either love a good bath or hate baths. While inspecting homes I can not always tell if the occupant likes baths or not----and I don’t really care----but if there is no stopper for the tub to be found anywhere----there is a pretty good chance that they are “shower people.” While I love a shower----I like a nice relaxing bath occasionally too. I like my bath in peace and quite----without the noise of a jetted tub as well. I love my sister-in-law’s outdoor hot tub in Bellingham, WA----which I get to use when I stay at her house while I am teaching my week of the Residential Home Inspection Training course at Bellingham Technical College. I like to lay back and listen to the stars instead of the jets. At a recent inspection I got to thinking about this question. The tub installation was one I have seen before, and it is prove that no one ever screws up anything “uniquely.” Someone somewhere has done a similar thing before. All I can conclude is that I hope the users are “shower-people,” otherwise it makes for a very uncomfortable bath. I hate having to take a bath with a helmet on----that is best left to other activities (inside joke). Charles Buell

LOL @ the tub installed the wrong way - those of us in the real estate and inspection business see all sorts of bizarre things, eh? LOL
It's amazing what you see on a daily basis in our line of work.
Taking a bath with a helmet on.....Now that's a funny thought!
Karen, yes we do
Craig, I have heard you do that-- LOL
Charles,
Cute post and not so cute pictures. There are definitely two types, those who love baths and those who rarely if ever take them.
All the best, Michelle
ding, ding, ding went the trolley...
Clang, clang, clang went the ... er.... head!
Michelle then there are those that take neither baths nor showers:)
Alan, yup
Well, you know how slippery a tub can be...a helmut just might save someone's life...LOL
a helmut just might save someone's life
~~~~~~~~~
LOL... I'm picturing Helmut Kohl running into the bath to save someone's life!!!
(Sorry, couldn't help myself!)
Makes you wonder exactly where the water goes when the drain is unstopped. Did you check the windows? Do they lock from the outside?
Pam----you just never know---just look at bicycles and skateboards
Alan---nice image
Cynthia---I thought the windows looked a bit funny LOL
OOPS! Looks like someone was bit back***wards! LOL
Debi
That is too funny, you really might be safer wtih a helmet on!
This tub is for those folks that like to exercise their toes. They turn the water on and off and change temperature all with the flip of a toe.
Charlie - That's whacked ....and probably so is somebody's head! Yeah, I think the helmet idea is the best remedy.
Debi, it would seem so
Sharon---nothing helps like a good helmet in the tub :)
Diane, but then they have the drain lever in their back :(
Carol, I am going with the helmet as well.
I get the point Charles, I just hate it when I get stabbed in the back.
That's a strange set-up. I had to study it a bit to see what was wrong.
Frank, me too
Barbara, it is the kind of thing one might not notice until they decided they wanted to take a bath :)
I really do not know what kind of person Nutsy is, but I will ask him and let you know. Me, neither one, I am a dirty guy.
Ididn't want to say anything :)
Charles, that is a funny installation! Too bad, I enjoy a good bath now and then!
Bath? Showers? What are those? Looks like someone was a little nutsy when they installed this tub...
Helping you help others live their American dream...
Tony & Darcy---I know I sure do.
Michael, I think so. This is how I think it happened. The tub has been there for a LONG time----maybe even 75 years or more. I think when they added a washer/dryer in the room adjacent to the top end of the tub they figured it would be a good time to change the plumbing to the tub. It is th "thought" that counts I guess:)
Lots of installations are done for the convenience of one person. How many times have we sold houses where the buyer says, "And I'm never moving again." With a set up like this, they may not ever be able to move if they wanted to. Thanks for the laugh...many of them.
Mr Charles,
I do not shower either. It makes the dye in my outfit run.
Nutsy
Glenn, it happens all the time----sometimes our individual tastes are just plain too individual when it comes times to sell.
Nutsy that information preceeds you----and has nothing to do with dye.
I don't ever remember seeing the hardware opposite like that. An after-thought bathroom?
What school did the contractor and plumber go to! Now that I have never seen before, definitley a top 10 in the unusual file:)
Jay, this is the third time I have found it switched like this---must be a NW thing:)
Ana, most likely NO school involved :)
Maybe this bathtub would be a good candidate for this experiment, mixing alkali metals with water...
Funny, there was a recent discussion about this type of installation on the ASHI forums. Not a code violation, but I wouldn't let that get in the way of common sense.
Lena, when did you sneak in here----great "experiment" though:)
Reuben, AHH yes---the good ole minimum standards :)
I just got it. What were they thinking. Maybe they weren't thinking.lol
