Breakfast of Bloggers!

Yup---I am going to blog about breakfast cereal!

OK----if you have kids you know what it is like to go to the kitchen cupboard and find the cereal box empty----and most of you will appreciate that I did not say “gone.”  (Don’t pretend you don’t eat the kid’s cereal when they Outside the box cerealaren’t looking either.)

Well, the kids are grown and they are not around much to eat the cereal anymore---but that still doesn’t mean there is always plenty of cereal.

I can still go to the cupboard and discover that there isn’t any.

     There is a solution.

     “Toast cereal.”

     Yup.

Just take some of your favorite whole grain bread---even raisin bread----especially raisin bread----and toast it up all nice and dark and then let it get hard in the toaster.

When it has cooled off, just crumble it up into tiny pieces----add sweetener and/or sliced fruit----add milk----and you are all set.

This method actually has advantages over boxed cereal.  It is cheaper.  You will never get caught adding sugar to the pre-sweetened store bought cereal again.  You are also less likely to run out.

I don’t even buy boxed cereal anymore.

Charles, Okay, at first I thought, YUK, soggy bread cereal.  Not appealing.  Then I thought more about it and am going to give it a shot.  Especially with a raisiny (is that a word?) grainy bread.  Love your blog.  Keep 'em coming.

Charles - This sounds like an interesting meal.  I might have to try this sometime, but I'll probably wait until we are out of cereal.  :)

LOL I agree this doesn't sound appetizing too me either. I like Raisin bread and milk but the two together? Im not so sure. Im am adventurous though!

Susan, I think "soggy" is more relative to time than "materials":)

Jason---give it a try some time.

Laura, that is all right---my sweetie thinks I am nuts too---you could add nuts too:)

And your sweetie should know!!!!! My best breakfast is definitely not cereal.  Don't drink cow milk.  I usually start out with a good double shot espresso (much easier now that I have a good espresso machine) no milk and no added water.  After a couple of those I'm good to go.

David, my routine is not too unlike yours.  My cereal would technically be my second breakfast after the one that would be the same as yours:)  I also don't do cows milk.

Oh Charles, you are a man of many talents. Now a developer of breakfast nutrition and taste. WOW!

Please don't tell me you actually eat this on a regular basis Charles, especially when there are cereals like this one readily available....

Post Nasal Drip. It's not just for breakfast anymore!

Better be careful about adding nuts.  You may have a squirrel invite himself to breakfast.

I am deeply disturbed by your bachleordum...  Some people can't cook and have to resort to such measures of desperation but you can cook and choose to eat bread in a bowl.  I'd probably eat the cereal box before I went that route.  How desperate must the first man have been to have found himself with no other option than to eat dad's breakfast surprise.  Now it's dinner time and the wife is not home so I have to go eat my (not so lightly seasoned with Parmesan cheese) mustard, catsup, peanut butter, chocolate syrup, tortilla sandwich.

Ty---boy scouts will do anything:)

Paul, I am not sure about the "taste" part

Craiglio, I will kindly stick to my soggy toast:)

Marcy---good point---I expect to have nuts on my blog any moment

Klee---sorry son---but that is "messed-up"

I eat "healthy" cereal every morning. My first meal however is black coffee.

Charles - I like the way your mind runs wild with ideas.  Yes I admit I do eat the kids cereals :)  But most of the stuff we have around the house is pretty healthy.

Gee, Charlie, that sounds, um, well, just DEEElicious!

You sure that's better than Cap'n Crunch?

Posted by Jay Markanich - Northern VA Home Inspector (Jay Markanich Real Estate Inspections, LLC) over 2 years ago

James---as I would have suspected:)

Marian---unfortunately there is just no stopping my mind:)

Jay, WAY better---of course you can always add chocolate chips if you want

Mr Charles,

Have you ever tried cocoa-puffs with diet Pepsi instead of mile. Yummm. Very nice.

Nutsy

Nutsy one, I prefer ketchup on my cocoa-puffs

I make my own cereal, but it doesn't start with bread.  I usually use cooked oats and other grains some nuts and honey.  I'll bake that at about 350.

Posted by Theodora Wu (TJ Investments) over 2 years ago

Charlie - That almost sounds like a recipe for bread pudding.

Posted by Carol Culkin, Dutchess County (Century 21 Alliance Realty Group ) over 2 years ago

Theodora---that is a great way to make cereal too----mine is more for "emergencies"----when you just gotta have a bowl of cereal :)

Carol, people are funny---it is really the ingredients for lots of desserts.  I started doing this with "mock peach shortcake."  Toast and peaches L:)

Come on... what is wrong with sugar-coated choco-bombs?  Only a few hundred calories a spoonful...
