Seattle Home Inspector's Blog

Got your thimpkin’ hat on?

Just a little fun post to test your powers of observation.

Take a look at the picture and then chose one of the answers that best fits what you think is the answer that I am looking for----plus why (required for full points).

Sure is a blue blue

  1. It always rains in Seattle.
  2. Mondrian painted the sky.
  3. The gutter leaks.
  4. Wires should NOT be connected to gutters.
  5. The downspout is blocked.
  6. The painters were sloppy.
  7. The siding is asbestos type.
  8. The sky is blue.

E:  Blocked. Reflection of water under the eave of the house. Have a great day.

Terry

Hi Charles: I think I have it.  The downspout is clogged.  I know this because I see the reflection of the water which has backed up in the gutter.  The reflection of the water in the gutter has created a reflection on the overhang thingy above (life my technical jargon?).

:)

Charles,  The reflection of the gutter tells me there is enough water for " Raven " to swim in.

What can I say Charles - Been Blinded by the Light! Might make a catchy title for a song. Wonder if it will catch on...

Hi, Charles,

All it takes is one smart guy and it is easy for the rest of us.  E, for all the reflective reasons:-)

Since your caption on the picture was about the blue sky, I was going to guess that one as what I thought you wanted to hear... but from the others above, I can see the reflection of the water. I thought it was just an orb or flash of light, but can now see it's the shape of the gutters.

Charles,

I was concerned about D, wires to the gutter. But that is why I don't do home inspections, saving that job for a trained pro like you.

Posted by Irene Kennedy Realtor® in Northwestern NJ (Weichert) almost 3 years ago

I thimpk the gutter is filled, nicely with water.  The wire connected is for heating the water to a nice warm temperature for Nutsy to swim in, and the Mondrianic lines in the sky were created by evil SST's in the sky, which leave "black" contrails.

(btw... I wouldn't be surprised if the downspout is clogged with acorns).

Terry, of course you are correct

Matt, as are you (I also like the corrected comment too:)

Bill, funny you should mention that---birds were using it like crazy while I was there.

Bird on a wire above bird bath

Michael, that DOES sound familiar......

Dana----a more interesting question might be to have just asked the question---"What is wrong with this picture?":)

Donna, I live in Seattle----I never mind hearing about blue sky:)

Irene, thanks

Alan, per usual you get high marks for "creativity"

OK-you got me. That is why a realtor needs an excellent home inspector such as yourself on the team. Great post

Charles, that's so much better than my childhood norm of "Alan is not living up to his potential" [insert echo machine and maniacal laughter here]

I hated that phrase.

Harry, thanks for the comment

Alan, I spent my share of time in the Principals office:)

Mr Charles,

I find this blog post to be elementary. I would have had my cousin walk the wire, look in the gutter and not worry about some subtle or imaginary shadow.

As usual your mind is in the gutter.

Posted by Charles Buell, Seattle Home Inspector (Charles Buell Inspections.com) almost 3 years ago

How abobut this...if you're going to connect power to your aluminum gutters you should use aluminum wiring and not copper to avoid dissimilar materials?  Just kidding folks, don't try this at home.

We have a new joke in Arkansas.  We are looking for a dryer climate for our health so we're going to move to Seattle.  It has rained cats and dogs and squirrels in this state for the longest.  Why can't you let us click on the selections like Steve lets us do?  Of course, I got it wrong.

Richard, well it is a good idea to keep disimilar metals away from each other:)

Barbara, even after having the advantage of seeing everyone else's answeres?:)

I guess since I'm late to this one and the answer is already there I can choose the one I like.  H. The sky is blue.  And it certainly is.

Posted by Jack Gilleland (Home Inspection and Investor Services, Clayton) almost 3 years ago

Jack, I like that answer too---hard to imagine anything being bluer than that:)

Posted by Charles Buell, Seattle Home Inspector (Charles Buell Inspections.com) almost 3 years ago

The BLUEST Skies you've ever seen are in Seattle.

I must be dumber than most - I didn't get it until I read the answers. :)

Posted by Teresa K. Nelson (Windermere Real Estate SBA, Inc.) almost 3 years ago

Theresa, sure love the blue skies of Seattle.  As far as you being "dumber than most" I would argue that some of the smartest people are not very observant----doesn't have much to do with being dumb:)

Looks like them wires are property attached for the most shock.

Sean Allen

Posted by International Financing Solutions almost 3 years ago

Sean, I know your are joshing but it is actually an optical illusion----those wires are actually out at the street----15 ft from the house:)

Posted by Charles Buell, Seattle Home Inspector (Charles Buell Inspections.com) almost 3 years ago

I'm going with B.  Only that perfect Mondrian blue color would reflect so well off the water in the gutter.  B of course is followed by the easy H.

Wow, those bricks are made out of asbestos?
